Welcome to our Montessori Math class! Designed for young learners, this class sets the foundation for future mathematical understanding through engaging, hands-on activities. Our approach combines structured lessons with playful exploration, ensuring that children develop essential pre-math skills in a fun and supportive environment. We are proud to be the first and only accredited Montessori school on the Outschool platform, featuring certified teachers who bring their expertise from our brick-and-mortar school located in Ontario, Canada. Our teaching style is fun, engaging, and productive. We believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience that stimulates curiosity and a love for discovery. By creating a positive and supportive atmosphere, we aim to keep students motivated and eager to participate. Students will have ample opportunities to interact with the teacher and their peers throughout the class. The small group setting ensures that each child receives personalized attention and has the chance to actively participate in all activities. We incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including interactive games, discussions, slides, and occasional video clips, to make lessons dynamic and relatable. This class focuses on preparing preschool-age children with the foundational skills they need for mathematical thinking. Our goal is to help children develop an intuitive understanding of numbers, patterns, and sequences, setting the stage for more advanced math concepts later on. Topics Covered Object Permanence: We will introduce activities that help children understand that objects continue to exist even when they are out of sight. This foundational concept is critical for developing memory and cognitive skills. Exploring Same and Different: Through games and hands-on activities, children will learn to identify similarities and differences between objects, fostering their ability to categorize and compare. Cause and Effect: Activities that demonstrate cause and effect relationships will help children understand how actions can produce specific outcomes, enhancing their problem-solving abilities. Taking Apart and Putting Together: By engaging in tasks that involve disassembling and reassembling objects, children will develop fine motor skills and spatial awareness. Associating Objects with Numbers: We will introduce the concept of numbers by associating them with physical objects, helping children make the connection between numerals and quantities. Sorting Events by Sequence: Children will learn to order events and objects in a logical sequence, which is essential for understanding chronological order and basic reasoning skills. Counting: Simple counting activities will help children learn to count objects accurately and understand the concept of quantity. Developing Base 10 Numbers: Introducing the base 10 system through playful activities will help children grasp the foundational concept of place value, which is crucial for future mathematical learning. Class Structure Each class session begins with the teacher demonstrating the materials needed for the day's activity. This includes a step-by-step guide on how to perform the task, ensuring that children understand each stage of the process. Following the demonstration, children will have the opportunity to try the activity independently while the teacher observes and provides real-time feedback. This hands-on approach allows children to learn through experience while receiving the support they need to succeed. We will also incorporate songs and puzzles into our lessons, making learning enjoyable and memorable. These activities are designed to reinforce the concepts taught and provide a variety of learning experiences. Join us in the Montessori Math class, where we help children develop the skills they need to navigate their world with confidence and independence. Through engaging activities and a supportive learning environment, we set the stage for lifelong success and fulfillment.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to arrange objects and events in a logical sequence, understanding concepts such as first, next, and last. They will grasp the flow of order through engaging activities and games.
Children will develop the ability to distinguish and identify different shapes, sizes, and colors. This skill will be fostered through visually stimulating materials and hands-on activities that enhance their observation skills.
