Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten
Welcome to our Montessori Math class, where we offer a hands-on and systematic approach to learning foundational math concepts. Designed specifically for kindergarten-age children, this class emphasizes incremental learning through engaging, tactile activities. Our goal is to foster a deep understanding of numbers and mathematical operations, preparing young learners for future academic success.

We are proud to be the first and only accredited Montessori school on the Outschool platform, featuring certified teachers who bring their expertise from our brick-and-mortar school located in Ontario, Canada.

In this class, we will cover essential math concepts using the Montessori method, which focuses on hands-on, incremental learning. Students will engage with materials and activities that help them build a strong foundation in mathematics, ensuring they understand the concepts deeply rather than just memorizing procedures.

Our teaching style is fun, engaging, and productive. We believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience that stimulates curiosity and a love for discovery. By creating a positive and supportive atmosphere, we aim to keep students motivated and eager to participate.

Students will have ample opportunities to interact with the teacher and their peers throughout the class. The small group setting ensures that each child receives personalized attention and has the chance to actively participate in all activities. We incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including interactive games, discussions, slides, and occasional video clips, to make lessons dynamic and relatable.

Topics Covered

Numbers to 10: We will start with the basics, helping children recognize, count, and understand numbers up to 10. This includes activities that make abstract concepts tangible, such as counting objects and matching them to numerals.

Decimal System: Introducing the decimal system through Montessori materials will help children grasp the concept of place value, which is crucial for understanding larger numbers and mathematical operations.

Associating Numbers and Quantities: Children will learn to associate written numbers with corresponding quantities, reinforcing their understanding of numbers in a concrete way.

Exchanging: Activities that involve exchanging, such as trading smaller units for larger ones, will help children understand the base-10 system and the concept of equivalence.

Four Operations: We will introduce the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Using hands-on materials, children will explore these operations in a concrete manner before moving on to abstract representations.

Memorization: Through fun and engaging activities, we will help children memorize basic math facts, such as addition and multiplication tables, ensuring they have a solid foundation for more advanced math concepts.

Exploration of Numbers: Children will have the opportunity to explore numbers in various contexts, deepening their understanding and encouraging a love for mathematics.

Class Structure

Each session begins with the teacher demonstrating the materials needed for the day's activity. This includes a live step-by-step guide on how to perform the task, ensuring that children understand each stage of the process. Following the demonstration, children will try the activity independently while the teacher observes and provides real-time feedback. This hands-on approach allows children to learn through experience while receiving the support they need to succeed.

To reinforce learning, we will provide worksheets that replicate Montessori materials, giving students additional practice and helping them solidify their understanding of the concepts taught in class.

Join us in the Montessori Math class, where we help Kindergarteners develop the skills they need to navigate their world with confidence and independence. Through engaging activities and a supportive learning environment, we set the stage for lifelong success and a deep love for mathematics.
