Learners will use an abacus to do math concepts, such as addition, subtraction, and more. We will cover how to use the beads on the abacus to manipulate as we would the numbers on a page. Learners will also learn how to translate numbers (on worksheet) into the counting beads and manipulate them for the purpose of completing mathematical equations, such as (2+2 or 3x3) and so on. My class is structured to allow the learners to have many opportunities to practice using the abacus. In this relaxed environment, the focus will be on obtaining math skills that will carry-on into the next grade level. When using the abacus learners are able to practice deductive reasoning skills, associative properties, make comparisons and discover patterns. I will teach in a "I do - You do - We do" format. Following introductions, I will introduce the abacus and ask students if they are familiar with one. Following the discussion, I will share my screen to show a math worksheet for us to complete as a group, using the abacus. My teaching style is fun and upbeat, but supportive and respectful. I encourage this atmosphere in the classroom as well, giving each learner the opportunity to build their confidence when participating throughout the class. As stated previously, learners will interact during introductions, when working as a group on the math problems, when working as a team to solve some math problems and discussing any topics that are student-led in relation to math. Knowledge of basic math skills is needed for this class. For example, the learner already knows that single digit numbers (0-9) can be combined to increase the amount.

Supply List
I will provide the math worksheet using the shared-screen method, during class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
We will use one math worksheet, containing various math problems. I will use the share-screen method to provide the worksheet during class.
Teacher expertise and credentials
2 Degrees
Master's Degree in Mathematics from Colorado State University
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Park University
Associates degree in Early Childhood Education and bachelor's degree in Education
Master's degree in Finance and Global Studies
I have taken several math for teacher training courses and spent one full year studying and implementing the Montessori method simultaneously, while being an early childhood educator. During those trainings, I learned how to create math themed lessons that combined analyzation, hypotheses development, and critical thinking skills. Following those trainings, I used the Montessori math skills to teach students ages 2-8 in a homeschool co-op program. I also tutored children aged 7-10 years old and created activities for other teachers to access for children aged 3-6 years.
