Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this 30 minutes concrete math class, students learn concepts through hands-on activities, and guided learning. This class delivers the authentic Montessori Math concrete lessons in linear counting, base ten and basic operations. The lessons are presented in a carefully structured sequence that follows the natural progression of a child's mathematical development. The linear counting and numeration materials provide children with a concrete understanding of the concept of quantity and symbol and the relationship between the numeral and quantity.

Learning Mathematics progresses through several levels, each designed to build upon the child's understanding and mastery of mathematical concepts. These levels typically align with the developmental stages of the child and aim to provide concrete experiences before introducing abstract ideas. This age-appropriate program is tailored to children between 3 to 6 years old or preschool, pre-k and kindergarten, who is passionate with numbers and interested to further their math skills. Below are the monthly topic. For each monthly math lesson we will focus on themes, students will count, build the number with clay or play dough and associate quantities to each numbers. As they progress into different levels, the activities will involve basic addition, matching numbers to quantities and simple math logic.

EXAMPLE LESSON:
JULY: Ocean Math Fun
-Trace numbers 0-9 with beach sand/sand tray
-Counting starfish
-Feed the shark
-Dot paint the number of bubbles
and more summer fun counting!

This is an ongoing class, your learner can enroll anytime!

MONTESSORI BEGINNER MATH MONTHLY LESSONS:

• JULY: SANDPAPER NUMBERS
Recognize numbers 0 to 9. The Sandpaper Numbers prepare children for writing and understanding the sequence and value of numbers in a concrete way.

• AUGUST: COUNT WITH TEN FRAME
Introducing the concept of numbers and quantity through visual and hands-on exploration. This method helps children visualize numbers and see the relationship between numbers and its quantity.

• SEPTEMBER: NUMBER RODS & NUMERALS
Children learn about the quantity and numerical symbols from 1 to 10 through hands-on manipulation and matching. Associating numbers and quantity, learn the names of numbers and sequence.

• OCTOBER: SPINDLE BOX/NUMERALS & COUNTERS
This activity helps children understand the concept of zero as an empty set and develop one-to-one correspondence skills while associating quantity and symbol.
Numerals and Counters reinforces counting, number recognition, and the concept of odd and even numbers, while also enhancing fine motor skills and concentration.

• NOVEMBER: HANGING COLOR BEADS 1 to 10 & 11 TO 19
The Hanging Color Beads consist of bead bars, each with a specific number of beads (from 1 to 10 and 11-19) and a distinct color for each quantity. Children count the beads in each bar to learn about numbers and visualize quantities.

• DECEMBER: GEOMETRIC SOLIDS
This hands-on lesson helps children develop spatial awareness and geometry vocabulary. The lesson involves identifying similarities and differences between shapes, laying the foundation for understanding geometry concepts, such as volume and symmetry.

• JANUARY: TEEN BOARD QUANTITY & SYMBOL
This activity helps children visualize and build teen numbers, reinforcing the concept of place value (ten and units). It provides a concrete and hands-on way for children to understand how teen numbers are formed, building a foundation for further work with numbers and addition.

• FEBRUARY: TEN BOARD QUANTITY & SYMBOL
This activity helps children visualize and build numbers from 10 to 90. It provides a concrete and hands-on way for children to understand how ten numbers are formed, building a foundation for further basic addition and learn to skip count by tens.

• MARCH: HUNDRED BOARD & SKIP COUNTING
Children engage in activities where they fill in the board with number tiles from 1 to 100 reinforcing sequential counting and number recognition. As they place the tiles, they begin to recognize patterns, such as skip counting by tens and the relationships between numbers.

• APRIL: INTRODUCTION TO GOLDEN BEADS
Children explore the concepts of place value and the decimal system using golden beads. The Golden Beads include units (1), ten bar (10), square (100), and cube (1,000), each representing different values.

• MAY: ALL ABOUT MONEY
This hands-on lesson helps children recognize US money coins and bills using real currencies. The lesson involves identifying the different denominations of coins and bills including the classification of obverse and reverse with real photos.

->MATERIALS: Montessori materials available at home is of great advantage. However, the printed version is included with the learning materials/worksheets.

->METHOD OF PRESENTATION: Lessons are presented using the physical Montessori Math materials, visual learning tools and other necessary materials to accommodate each students unique learning abilities. I use another camera to capture the best angle of the presentation and extra lightings.

->ACTIVITIES & EXTENSIONS: After each presentation, we will work together with our practice worksheets/extensions and every student have the opportunity to practice an interactive activity that are Montessori aligned.

->CLASS POLICY:
- I interact with my students all the time. Please make sure your learner is "unmuted for the full class with video on."
- This class is mostly "Hands-on" so to fully participate, the student will need the materials (pdf) ready and or manipulative and counters.

With over ten years as a Montessori guide, I have a deep passion for making math hands-on and engaging for primary children. I love numbers and problem-solving, and I enjoy creating Montessori-aligned lessons that bring mathematical concepts to life. Using Montessori materials, I guide young learners in discovering number patterns, exploring fundamental operations, and building a strong mathematical foundation. My goal is to nurture a love for math by helping children develop confidence and a deep understanding through hands-on exploration of concrete mathematical concepts that make sense to young minds.
