US Grade 1 - 3

After making introductions and reviewing the class rules, learners will see an interactive Canva slide show with Montessori year/week nomenclature materials. Upon completion of the lesson, learners can discuss which part of the year/week is their favorite and why. Follow up activities will be based on an student choice board, with nine creative options. Week 1, Session 1, Students will learn why each of the seven days has a particular name through Montessori inspired stories. We will talk about which day is our favorite and why. The student choice board will be presented and options will be reviewed. Learners will make their choice from the board or create their own with approval from the teacher. If time allows, learners can begin their follow up projects. Week 1, Session 2 This class will focus on the follow up activities that learners completed from Session 1. Opportunities will be provided for students to share their work with the class. We will also learn how to abbreviate the days of the week and practice with several sentence frames. Week 2, Session 1 In this lesson, students will learn why each of the 12 months has a particular name through Montessori inspired stories via Canva presentation. We will have discussions about which month is most interesting to them based on historical relevance. Week 2, Session 2 After a review of the months of the year, learners will make another follow up activity choice from the student menu. This session will serve as a creative block of time when students can work on their projects. In addition, the abbreviations for the months of the year will be introduced and practiced within a short story framework. This is sure to be a course full of rich history combined with creative activities to deepen their understanding of how our year and weeks were made. Students should have some basic independent reading and writing ability for this class.

Hello! I am so excited to teach your kiddos on Outschool! I have a degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching over 25 years. I also have a specialty Montessori certificate in grades 1-3, and a TESOL certification credential. For nine years I specialized as a learning Title I learning support teacher with a focus in reading and writing in the language arts curriculum with 5-9 year olds. I have taught 1st and 2nd grade in a Montessori classroom. I love helping children learn to read by teaching the fundamental skills of early reading, grammar, reading comprehension and writing. I also teach many cultures themed lessons for learners where we can enjoy exploring topics of our planet and space together!
I love to help children learn and be successful in the classroom through fun and engaging activities. I like to make classes challenging and rewarding for students, and I have a very student centered approach, which is aligned with the Montessori teaching philosophy. I think of myself as a guide, who always strives to meet children at their instructional level.
Outside of teaching, I am a mother of adult boy/girl twins. My husband and I have a senior rescue terrier named Sandy and we love to go for long walks. I also enjoy living a very healthy lifestyle which includes walking, hiking, yoga, running and enjoying nature whenever possible!
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me. I hope to see your child in the classroom soon!
