In this continuation of the Montessori Cosmic Education Series, students will dive deeper into space and travel far beyond our solar system. From grasping the Milky Way to visualizing the outskirts of the observable universe, students develop a better understanding and appreciation of our own planet.

𝑨𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒈𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒙𝒊𝒆𝒔, 𝒃𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒂 𝒘𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒌𝒚, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒛𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒛𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒚 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒒𝒖𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆.
Later in the course the students will witness the formation of our solar system, explore the Earth in the Hadean Eon and dive deep into the Earth's core. We will then talk about the Earth's fiery and explosive volcanoes, after which we will calm ourselves by looking at our planet's most beautiful land and water forms.

𝑻𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒐𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒔 𝑰 𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒔𝒍𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒔, 𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒐𝒔 𝒄𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒔, 𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒈, 𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔-𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒍.
Abstract thinking connects with sensorial experience when students create models, art and crafts. My focus is on creating impressionistic lessons which inspire the young students, lead them to study further, and fuel their imagination.

While we certainly won't find all the answers throughout this course, we can still fabricate a vision of the universe which can satisfy the children's interest to understand their world, their place in it, and themselves.

1 - Week of September 18: What we can see in the sky
In the first class of this course, students define astronomical bodies and celestial objects within our galaxy. To strengthen the understanding, the content of the class will be retold with a cosmic tale using hands-on material.

2 - Week of September 25: Dusty, gassy and glittered with stars: Galaxies
Students will learn about the components and types of galaxies, admire some of the most beautiful galaxies in space, and create a painting.

3 - Week of October 2: The observable universe - From the Milky Way to the Galactic Web
This meeting will encourage a deep look into space! Students explore the structure of the universe and create a model to find an answer to the question "Where is my place in the universe?" After that, we will emerge into another cosmic tale.

4 - Week of October 9: A hungry place in space: What is a Black Hole?
In this class, students will explore black holes and process their impressions with art.

After week 9, the topics will cycle back to the beginning. I am offering this course on the ongoing format to give you maximum flexibility with attendance. If your student is interested in a specific class you are welcome to join for a single session! Although the classes are part of a series, each one is self-contained and can stand alone as its own class.

Please have a look at "learning goals" for detailed class descriptions.

~𝐌𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐬~
I hold both an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education (Austrian State Preschool Teacher Certificate) and a Montessori Teaching Certificate (Montessori Europe Certified.) I attended the University of Graz, Austria and Padua, Italy and received my Bachelor's Degree in Romance Studies (Italian/Spanish).

~𝐌𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞~
Until 2020 I have been working as a lead teacher in a New Jersey Montessori school with children from ages two to five. Before teaching in the US, I did my training and worked as a preschool teacher in my native Austria. I have been teaching on outschool for two years now! I am still as excited and passionate about teaching my young learners as I have been on the first day, creating new classes and courses based on my students' interests as I go.

-As of fall 2022 I am bringing my music classes to the in-person classroom by teaching young learners in preschools and daycares in my area.

-In April 2023 I published my first children's book.
"Let's move like the animals in the forest" is all about engaging in the joys of creative movement!

- On my youtube channel "Music, Movement & Montessori with Ms. Mary-Lou" you can find fun and educational music class videos. Have a glimpse into my musical world!

~𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬~
I am a certified Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) and have many hours (over 4 years) of teaching Yoga to young children in a preschool/kindergarten setting. Yoga may help children to regulate their emotions, manage their stress and make them resilient.

~𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬~
I love to play the guitar and studied classical guitar for almost a decade. One of my favorite activities is to use music and song to encourage my students to express themselves. It's been my experience that music lifts the children's spirits and gets them in the right mood for learning and exploring!

~𝐌𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐲~
I encourage creativity through art and music: art helps children express their views of the world, regulate their emotions and encourages divergent thinking. Music and singing has the ability to strengthen the connection between the body and brain to work together as a team.

I enjoy deepening both mine and the children's knowledge regarding topics that interest and touch them (an approach according to Reggio Emilia).

I understand myself as a guide by being observant, active, engaging and self-reflective.

I create a prepared environment where children are given opportunities to explore, collaborate and express their ideas.

~𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥~
I am a native of Austria so you might notice a slight accent. I can hardly ski but I do jodel from time to time! I offer all of my classes in german too!
I live in New Jersey and love to explore the Garden States beaches and parks. The outdoor trips certainly inspire my classes.
