US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this multi day class, your learners will have the opportunity to explore what their role is in our vast universe through a variety of Montessori activities. The goal of these lessons is to show how we are all connected not only to what is immediately surrounding us, but having a deeper understanding of the world and cosmic universe beyond. From people to plants, Earth to other planets. Maria Montessori strongly believed that children should understand their place within the world and to respect and have a sense of gratitude for what is around them. In meeting 1, We will begin class with typical introductions, overview of class rules, and a quick icebreaker activity. I will be screen sharing a Canva presentation with a “story” about how we exist in the biggest, most vast concept (galaxy) to the smallest building block of matter (atom). It supports Montessori principle of learning from general to specific, from big to small . For a follow up work, learners will make a book called “My Cosmic Address”, which I have created a template for. Some of the templates are blank to allow learners of other continents to draw their own images. (Continent, country, city pages) Three part cards will also be shared with learners which they can use after class to review the parts of their cosmic address. In meeting 2, learners will share their books with one another and have the chance to ask questions. The aim of this lesson is to create a stacking or nesting material using blocks, boxes or cups to make a dramatic visual representation of their cosmic story. I’ll be sharing many examples beforehand and creating a new one with them during class. Labels for each part of the material will be provided, as well as blank ones which can be customized by your learners. We will begin with the largest piece, and then continue to the smaller pieces, creating a fluid, impressive representation of big to small, broad to specific. Learners will be amazed with the culmination of this activity which so clearly gives a big picture perspective of the universe! In meeting 3, students will be able to finish and share their creations. This time will also give them the opportunity to talk about their favorite part of their own cosmic story. This also can open up a dialogue in which students can talk about how they can have an impact on the bigger world around them. This course is a wonderful experience for children to see how we are all interconnected and play a role in our vast world. I look forward to seeing your learners in the classroom!

Hello! I am so excited to teach your kiddos on Outschool! I have a degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching over 25 years. I also have a specialty Montessori certificate in grades 1-3, and a TESOL certification credential. For nine years I specialized as a learning Title I learning support teacher with a focus in reading and writing in the language arts curriculum with 5-9 year olds. I have taught 1st and 2nd grade in a Montessori classroom. I love helping children learn to read by teaching the fundamental skills of early reading, grammar, reading comprehension and writing. I also teach many cultures themed lessons for learners where we can enjoy exploring topics of our planet and space together!
I love to help children learn and be successful in the classroom through fun and engaging activities. I like to make classes challenging and rewarding for students, and I have a very student centered approach, which is aligned with the Montessori teaching philosophy. I think of myself as a guide, who always strives to meet children at their instructional level.
Outside of teaching, I am a mother of adult boy/girl twins. My husband and I have a senior rescue terrier named Sandy and we love to go for long walks. I also enjoy living a very healthy lifestyle which includes walking, hiking, yoga, running and enjoying nature whenever possible!
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me. I hope to see your child in the classroom soon!
