Students will be learning about the evolutionary history of Dolphins starting 28 million years ago. The topics covered will be as follows: 1) Odontocetan ancestry-the use of biosonar 2) Staying in the rivers-The Allodelphines 3) Wading in the ocean-The Kentriodonts 4) Toothy grins-the Squalodonts 5) The impact of Megalodon on their evolution 6) Getting cuter-Phocoenid dolphins 7) Odd heads-Globicephaline dolphins 8) Stabby faces-Monodont dolphins 9) Sea wolf rise-Orcinine dolphins 10) Megalodon out of the way 11) Going away, endangered members . The class will be structured along the evolutionary history of the family. I will teach using a mixture of lectures, slides, discussion and video clip and interact with my students this way. My teaching style can be described as interactive. Learners need no experience or knowledge with this topic.

This class will discuss hunting strategies and there will be videos showing how Orcas hunt their prey.

I studied Marine Paleontology at the University of Alberta under Phil Currie. I have docented at the Smithsonian as a child educator on prehistory of 3 years. I have been on several fossil digs where I have found marine animals.
