You may be familiar with some ocean animals like sharks, sea stars, and dolphins, but have you ever wondered what creatures live deeper in the ocean, in the depths that the sun no longer reaches? In this one-time course you'll learn about carnivorous sponges, monstrous-looking sharks, fish with transparent heads, and more! We'll discuss what they look like, what adaptations they have, and how they survive in the dark abyss of the deep ocean. At the end of class, we will discuss students' favorite new animals from the lesson.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the unique adaptations deep sea creatures have evolved to survive in a unique habitat and will gain a greater appreciation for the diverse array of life that calls the ocean home.
