I am taking a break from Outschool during the months of March, April, May, and June. Stay tuned for classes in July. :) Monsters and Mold is the second book in the Zoey and Sassafras series. The books can be read out of order as long as the reader knows the basics of the first book. I offer a book club for the first book called Dragons and Marshmallows. Now that Marshmallow is all better, Zoey and Sassafras can relax but not for long. Their skills are needed to help a forest monster with an embarrassing problem. As always, Zoey and Sassafras dive into science to solve the problem. We will also dive into science as we conduct an experiment using the scientific method. What can be better than a science experiment? How about adding crafts, journals, and peer interactions into the mix? Students will make predictions and discuss the text as they increase their reading comprehension skills. Students will read chapters between each class meeting over the 4-week time span. During each meeting, we will have a lively discussion about the last chapters read. We will have fun imagining what it would be like to talk to animals. Students will learn how to strengthen their reading skills, especially their predicting skills through engaging discussions. Students will make a recycled art piece inspired by our main characters. We will also practice the scientific method by conducting an experiment. That's not all. We will write a personal letter and response. This twirl of literature and science is energizing and captivating. Before the first meeting, please read chapters 1-3. Day 1: Discussion Monstrous Art with Recycled Materials Predictions Day 2: Discussion Choice Writing: Friendly Letter or Short Story Predictions Day 3: Discussion Moldy Food Experiment Predictions Day 4: Discuss the conclusion of the Moldy Food Experiment Discuss the ending chapters of the book Surprise $10 off after taking any of the Zoey and Sassafras Science Book Clubs with me. I will refund the money when you sign up. :) Zoey and Sassafras: Monsters and Mold With magical animals, science, mystery, and adventure -- the brand new series Zoey and Sassafras has something for everyone! Easy-to-read language and illustrations on nearly every page make this series perfect for a wide range of ages. In the second book of this series, a forest monster shows up looking for help with an embarrassing problem and Zoey is sure it will be a simple fix. But her first two tries at helping him fail and she has a sobbing monster on her hands! Will Zoey and Sassafras solve the problem in time for Gorp to go to the annual Monster Ball?
