Class Experience

Welcome to our 4 - week STEAM Book Club!

This interactive book club involves discussions with peers in a friendly and encouraging environment. Learners will get to do an experiment in class and perform the scientific method, complete fun activities, learn vocabulary from the book, as well as answer and ask questions about the book. Learners are encouraged to share their feelings, ideas, and opinions about the book in a friendly setting. A great class for emerging readers who enjoy Science and adventure!

About the book:
"Zoey and Sassafras: Monsters and Mold" by Asia Citro is about Zoey, a young girl who enjoys learning and performing experiments. She meets a monster, named Gorp, who is in need of help. Gorp knew that Zoey could help him, and is desperate for Zoey to solve his problem. Will Zoey be successful in solving Gorp's dilemma on her first try? This book teaches about perseverance, friendship, and how the scientific method can help answer questions.

Hi, I'm Teacher Kim! I have a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, and over 10 years of experience in informal education. This includes teaching at the National Aquarium in Baltimore and Disney's Animal Kingdom. I hold certifications for “Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Compassionate Leadership through Service Learning” and “Project WILD”. I am also a Homeschooling mom!

I enjoy teaching children and seeing how they learn, be empowered, and succeed. My goal is to teach in a fun, patient, inclusive and positive environment. I believe that it is important to introduce environmental conservation at a young age in order to help empower the individual in protecting nature and our planet.

Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring nature, yoga, traveling, dancing, and SCUBA Diving. Conservation and education are some of my passions, and the classroom is a great way for me to share that with you! I look forward to meeting you. See you in the classroom soon!
