As a certified Social Studies teacher with 30 years experience and a huge fan of everything D&D, I am very excited for this opportunity to share my enthusiasm and knowledge with Mythical Greek Adventure students. For the past year, I have integrated D&D 5e with my Social Studies teaching, especially my on-line/remote teaching and have found this effort to be very successful. Classes similar to the ones I have recently taught I will bring to Outschool soon (e.g., The Hoplite Experience during the Greco-Persian Wars). As an AP World & European teacher with overseas GCSE/A-Level/I.B. History experience, I have thoroughly immersed myself in Ancient, Medieval and Modern History for the last thirty years. With a B.A. in History, a B.S. in Education and a M.A. in Military History I feel that I have a great deal of knowledge to subtly "sneak" into the fun and enjoyment of "the world's greatest role playing game".
Homework Offered
There is no set homework for this On-Going class. However, students would gain an advantage by researching the various terrains we will encounter session-by-session, as well as the monsters associated with the D&D Monster Manual and the legend and lore of other mythological monsters from World Literature we will encounter. Students will be expected to "be prepared" for each session - yes, it is a game - however for effective and fun role play students have the best time when they "get into it". Which, no doubt they will due to the exciting nature of this module.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Essentially, the student will assess their own progress throughout the campaign - Did they capture the monster? Has their Monster Hunting company turned a profit? Are their customers satisfied with their work? As DM, I will offer advice and give options - especially for those players new to the game or new to a particular class. Ultimately, each participant will be in enough situations whereby they will feel a sense of improvement through level advancement in their class.

I will supply learners with all the magical weapons and spell components necessary for this course. Students MUST have an account with Roll20 (free) prior to joining; this is the platform we use for our adventures. On Roll20 I can share my Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, Volo's Guide and many other compendiums (the digital versions).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The premise of this course is to provide "monster hunting" opportunities for students eager to play D&D. This class is meant for the student who wants to learn about the habitat/ecology of the monster, tactics to combat a variety of monsters, and how the monster might be used to make other magical items and or potions. The Three Pillars of Adventure are integrated in each session: we explore our environment, we role play with our teammates and NPCs, and we combat with a variety of monsters. The students are tracking down and either trying to capture of eliminate a troublesome monster. There will not be an emphasis upon gory details. This course is an opportunity for students to learn the mechanics of D&D when facing increasingly challenging monsters week-by-week. D&D is the vehicle for introducing students to mythological monsters from World History, the Middle Ages and the medieval guild system....so please do not tell your child that I will actually be teaching them "stuff" while we are "playing".

Students will be provided with specific handouts (if necessary) for special campaigns. Most information they may need is readily accessible on the Internet or in the D&D Monster Manual. I will provide either a brief presentation or a handout which provides the background for the session. For instance, a presentation which integrates the Beowulf backstory and/or Beowulf as a Non-Playing Character (NPCs).
