Money, Money, Money, Let's Count Money: Focusing on Pennies and Nickels Part 1
In this one-time course, students will be introduced to the values of the coins using both a rhyme and a song followed by activities to practice counting pennies and nickels.

Students will be invited to participate in introductions and a hello song to get everyone excited about the class. After this, the students will listen to a song that introduces both the penny and nickel and their values. Students will be invited to show their own coins as we go through the song learning the names of the coins and their values. Then we will practice counting by ones and talk about how that is like counting pennies. Then the students will focus on counting groups of...
Students will learn to: 1. identify the coins (penny and nickel) 2. identify the values of the coins (penny and nickel) 3. count pennies, nickels, and combinations of the two different coins. 4. write the amount of money.
Students should continue to practice identifying the coins at home and counting the coins.
Students should come to class with the following items: 1. penny, nickel, dime, quarter 2. paper and a pencil or a dry erase board and a marker
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed using informal assessment as they answer questions throughout the lesson.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
