Week 1Lesson 1Identifying & Counting Dollars & CoinsStudents will be introduced to pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, the $1.00 bill, the $5.00 bill, the $10.00 bill and the $20.00 bill Students will count by... - 1's to count pennies and $1.00 bills - 5's to count nickels and $5.00 bills - 10's to count dimes and $10.00 bills - 20's to count $20.00 bills - 25's to count quarters Students will practice counting combinations of different bills and coins.Week 2Lesson 2Adding Prices Together to Find TotalsStudents will be able to add prices together to find totals. Students will practice counting dollars and coins using 25's, 10's, 5's, and 1's. Students will use addition to calculate coin and dollar totals.Week 3Lesson 3Adding Prices Together Sticking to a BudgetStudents will be able to purchase items while sticking to a budget. Students will be introduced to what a budget is. Students will be given a budget of how much they can spend and will choose 2 out of 3 items that they can purchase that will not go over their budget. Students will use addition to determine which items they can purchase without going over their budget.Week 4Lesson 4Making ChangeStudents will be able to make change. Students will use subtraction or **counting on to make change. **“Counting on” means to start with the item’s price, then count up to the amount paid with to find the difference. For example, if the price of the item is $2.35, and the purchase is being made with $5.00, we will count on from $2.35 to $3.00 to find the difference of 65 cents, and then from $3.00 to $5.00 to find the difference of $2.00 to see the change needed would be $2.65Week 5Lesson 5Applying All 4 Skills to a Shopping ExperienceStudents will be able to spend wisely at the store. Students will... -Determine how much money they have in their "bank account" by counting the bills and coins in the account -Determine what their budget will be for the store based off of the amount in their bank account -Use addition to keep track of how much they are spending at the store as they select the items they'd like to buy -Use subtraction or counting on to determine how much change they will get back after they pay for their items
Students will be able to add money amounts together to find a total, stick to a budget, and subtract money amounts to know how to make correct change.
Homework Offered
One 1 page homework activity will be shared per lesson. This can be turned in once completed for feedback. There will also be one Kahoot! activity per lesson.Assessments Offered
