There are weekly live meetings for this class. The material will be posted weekly and you can view it and complete the assignments prior to our weekly meeting time. Each week for 6 weeks students will be guided through a variety of money and banking skills with live meetings, we will be using vocabulary, games, coloring activities, and stories. Students will learn basic money management skills, including the difference between wants and needs, basic savings and budgeting, and a high level overview of how banking and the U.S. money system works. In addition to the video content, worksheets, and activities, I will post a weekly prompt in the chat in order to better engage and answer questions or follow up on anything from the prior week. Weekly Topics Week 1: Introduction – What kinds of money are there? and What is a bank? Week 2: Piggy bank activity (counting money) Week 3: How to save and why we should save Week 4: Discuss the difference between wants/ needs with activity Week 5: Grocery store trip activity (exploring budgets) Week 6: Review the content and key takeaways

You may want a few basic craft supplies for week 2 (crayons or markers, scissors, and a box (shoe box works best, but any box will do) alternatively you can use a piece of paper, I will provide craft instructions for 2 options.

Hi. I'm Michaela, and I will be teaching basic money and banking courses here on Outschool! I'm excited to teach my students the fundamentals of budgeting, saving, and the importance of money management. I believe this life skill is essential to learn as early as possible and continue to build on in order to set them up for healthy financial wellbeing in the future. I currently hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance as well as a Master's degree in Business. I have taught this course to our local Girl Scouts and have helped countless young people through my 9 years in the banking industry learn these fundamental skills. I'm excited to continue to share my knowledge!
