55 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. Be a hero. Students will be encouraged to explore and present questions about their favorite characters and story lines.Class Experience
With great power comes great responsibility. - (traditionally) Uncle Ben In this weekly meet-up, we will discuss current Marvel media (tv, movies, video games, comic books) and how it has been influenced and directed by recent mythology established by Marvel, classical literature, and popular culture. Classes will be directed by student interest and discussion, although there will be a loose structure throughout. Frequently we will read from a popular comic run that has influenced current MCU story lines. Class discussion will be directed by students and supervised by an adult versed in modern and classical theater. As Marvel releases a new movie, show, or video game, we will discuss that current event; such as Marvel's Phase 5. We may spend several classes covering popular comic story lines like "Marvel Zombies" by Robert Kirkman and getting to know the lore behind themes within the movies, like the Sinister Six, and cultural influences like Sam Raimi. Or students may wish to pursue another topic entirely, so we'll do that instead.
Learning Goals
Students will learn that Marvel goes deeper than simple entertainment. Life lessons can be learned from each product Marvel puts out, for example; The Ship of Theseus monologue in Wandavision (easily found on Youtube.) The essential lesson of power/responsibility where power comes in many forms, will come through in our discussions. Knowledge is power.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Those familiar with me know me as an antiquities scholar mired in ancient literature from poets such as Ovid and Homer. I am also a huge Marvel nerd who loves video games. You can expect your learner to be led by a responsible mind that has trekked these trails before.
