This class will engage students by having them critically and creatively reflect on their favorite fairy tales. In this class, I will begin with a discussion of fairy tales, and have learners share their favorite fairy tales and why. I will then have students work through a brainstorming activity about how they can make their chosen fairy tales have a modern twist. I will give my own example as a demonstration. Students will then work on a sketching and outline activity, where they describe...
Students will practice their creative writing skills and they will also think critically. They will be tasked with imaginatively connecting attributes of their own world to the classic tales everyone is familiar with. By working on this with their peers, they will also boost their writing and creative confidence. Mostly, I hope students have fun.
There won't be any homework, but we will be creating individual projects in class.
Be sure that participants bring some drawing supplies and paper. If that's just a pencil and paper, that's totally fine!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will get informal assessments during the class time. This assessment will be encouraging, fun, and aimed at bolstering their creative writing ownership and increasing their self efficacy. I want students to leave the class being more excited about writing than when they came in!
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Hopefully everyone can remember one of their favorite fairy tales before the class!
