Model UN: Finding Peace and Security at the UN Security Council- Ukraine Edition
Class experience
US Grade 7 - 10
Join this model United Nations experience and become a country delegate for a session of intensive debates, negotiations and resolutions. Learners will gain a deep understanding of the UN, it’s purposes and principles, it’s workings and it’s challenges. The first two classes will engage learners in discussions as we learn the details of how the UN Security Council operates. Then, each learner will be assigned to represent a country within the Security Council during important negotiations...
Learners will come away from this class with a greater understanding of the United Nations, it’s structure and organization. They will develop diplomacy and communication skills. They will gain an understanding of the global system set up to ensure peace and security across the globe and understand the political challenges of that mission. Finally, learners will employ their critical thinking skills as they work to negotiate, debate and compromise to find a peaceful resolution to a complicated problem.
I have worked for the United Nations previously for over a decade and continue to consult with them as a human rights lawyer. I am three years into my PhD focusing on the United Nations Security Council and have expert knowledge in the area. I homeschool my children and have taught these big, global issues in co-ops and on Outschool for several years now, gaining the ability to translate big global concepts into bite sized manageable learning experiences.
