Modding With Minecraft (Live Sample Class)- Beginner

One-Time/Sample Class--This class is a one-time class that allows students to get a taste of what it is like to create a mod for Minecraft.  If students would like to keep learning after the class, I offer a longer 8-week class that goes into more depth and detail about how to create and code mods using MCreator.

After completing this class, families will also receive a discount code for $15 they can apply towards the full 8-week class if the student would like to continue.

Important Note: There is some setup required before class to make sure a student can participate fully in the class.  After signing up, please watch the instructional video that is posted in the Outschool classroom to make sure your child is ready for the class.

Students in this class learn how to use a program called MCreator to design and texture their own custom Minecraft block.  We also work on coding the block to do something based off a trigger event in Minecraft.

In this class, students will learn to…
-Create a Minecraft texture.
-Create a new block for Minecraft.
-Customize the block's behavior in MInecraft.
-Add a procedure (set of commands) to the block to make it do something unique.
-Activate the procedure in Minecraft on a specific trigger event.

Technology/Software Requirements

Minecraft
A Minecraft (PC/MAC-Java Edition) is required for this program.  See below.
-Minecraft-- https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition/
-Other editions of Minecraft (like Windows 10 and Pocket Edition) will not work with the class.
-You must have a PC or Mac to run this edition of Minecraft.  It will not work on a ChromeBook or tablet.
-Note For Mac Users: The Minecraft website only lists Java Edition for PC.  This is a result of Mojang bundling Java Edition and Bedrock Edition together.  Bedrock edition does not work on the Mac, but you can still purchase Minecraft and Java edition will work on your Mac.  We don't need Bedrock edition for class.

Important Note: MCreator is a free open source program and is partly supported by ads on its website.  MCreator should be downloaded and installed under parent supervision to avoid clicking on ads on the website.  Please follow the directions you receive after registration that will guide you through download and install.  There are no ads inside the software after it is downloaded and installed.
