As of June 1st, 2021 Introduction to Mock Trial is no longer required to take Mock Trial. This class will focus on a civil trial where a student is suing another student and the school board for bullying. Students will be assigned as either plaintiff or defense and will proceed through the trial and use the facts provided to build a case. Students will form opening statements, closing statements and witness questions. Class 1- Introductions, mini lesson on civil trial procedure, introduction to the case, assignment as prosecution or defense, and explanation of opening statements. Class 2- Students will present their opening statements and we will discuss the the merits of them. In this class we will also discuss witness questioning and evidence presentation. Students will also get a mini lesson on evidence (so when appropriate they can object to questioning). Class 3- Students will present their direct examination and cross examination questions for the witnesses. We will then spend some time debriefing the merits of the questioning. Students will also get a mini lesson on preparing a closing statement. Class 4- Students will present their closing statements and we will debrief and close out the class. I will provide all necessary resources for class as we progress through the material. You will not be required to seek any external resources but I will point out some great links to opening statements, witness questioning, and closing statements for reference.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
This class will cover the different aspects of a civil trial. I have graduated from law school and ran a in class mock trial team at the middle school level, I have also taught high school and middle school English and Reading. Additionally this case will cover what bullying looks like. I have worked with K-12 students in healthy relationships and anti-bullying curriculum for many years.
