Description

Class Experience

Learners will explore topology, the geometry of distortion, with the mobius strip.  They will make a mobius strip with paper and tape and describe its characteristics.  They will identify the number of surfaces and edges and experiment with the strip.  They will create, make predictions and draw conclusions about modifiying the shape with twists and cuts.  The students will record their finding to discover a pattern and make a conclusion.   They will be encouraged to share their descriptions,...

Learners will understand what a mobius strip is and describe its properties. 
Learners will make predictions and draw conclusions when modifying a mobius strip.
Learners will be introduced to topology.

No homework assigned.  I hope your leaner will share with you the mobius strip and its surprising properties.

Paper, scissor, pen, and tape.  Optional ruler.

50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
