Class Experience

In this class, we will read various books by Mo Willems. I will be asking comprehension questions throughout the book and we will even act out parts. Mo Willems' books help learners practice expressing emotions, read with fluency, and identify sight words. Throughout the course, we will read Elephant and Piggie, Duckling and Pigeon books - all of my favorites!

I have a very relaxed teaching style and rely heavily on student input. This allows students to direct conversations and express their opinions and interests. I teach first grade and absolutely love when students participate and can be silly with me.

Monday - I Broke My Trunk!
Wednesday - Duckling Gets a Cookie?!
Friday - Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late
Learning Goals
Students will be able to answer comprehension questions while reading the text.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi and thank you for taking time to check out my profile! My name is Allison Hodson and I am thrilled for the opportunity to teach your child! I plan on teaching a variety of classes for students Pre-K through 3rd grade (ages 3-10). All courses I offer in Math and Language Arts are aligned with the common core standards in mind.

My teaching experience includes a variety of settings including preschool as an assistant teacher and as a paraprofessional for two years, substitute teaching in elementary school aged classrooms (TK-5th), and teaching first grade for 3 years. I obtained my bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from SUNY Cortland. I eventually moved to California to complete my Master's Degree in Elementary Education at Loyola Marymount University. Additionally, I have a California State Teaching Credential.

My teaching philosophy is to provide every learner a safe space to engage and explore in order to grow as individuals. I love teaching values like empathy, integrity, and respect to help children become kind and compassionate human beings. By creating this safe learning environment, kids are willing to take risks and recognize mistakes as an opportunity to grow.

When I'm not teaching you can find me watching Disney movies, exercising with my Grandma, or painting! I look forward to meeting your student and learning together. Thank you!
