Description
Class Experience
Students will sharpen their analysis skills by studying films as texts, and examining their historical and cultural context.
I'm an award-winning screenwriter, filmmaker, and film educator with more than 10 years of experience, and a lifelong Miyazaki fan.
Students will complete film screenings and take notes outside of class.
All films are available on DVD or streaming for purchase, and many may be accessible for free at local libraries. The entire Studio Ghibli catalogue is also available to stream on HBO Max, and on Netflix outside of the US. Students who enroll will receive a PDF handout to record their film reactions. Using the organizer is optional.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Some films in this survey course contain sequences that may be too intense for younger viewers. Ratings for all films are noted. I encourage learners to look into the films before the screening each week to determine if the material is appropriate for them.
