In this one time class, young artists will learn all about mixed media and how to create a winter snow scene, complete with snowman. We will answer the questions: What does Mixed Media mean? How does using different media (crayons, watercolors, poster paints) change the look of the art? We will explore using different media to create a mood, in this case, a cold winter's day. Artists will be encouraged to use their imaginations and add whatever details they would like to their picture. My class will be structured to have an introduction to the art topic, Mixed Media, and then we will have a discussion about what types of winter icons students would like to draw. Then I will guide the students through the next 3 steps of mixed media. Step 1 is to draw using crayons. Step 2 will be to apply watercolor paint. This creates the completed background. Step 3 will be to paint using acrylic or poster paints to create a snowman in the foreground. Learners will get to interact frequently during class with questions, and I will encourage students to use their imaginations. At the end of class, there will be a chance for everyone to share their artwork if desired. Prior basic art experience is suggested.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Art and Design from The College of New Jersey
Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.
I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.
My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
