Learn to paint with watercolours! In this class, students will paint magical misty forests while learning specific techniques, including creating gradients, planning out composition, and painting pine trees. This class is both structured and open-ended, allowing for students to have some direction while making independent decisions in colour, composition, and scale that will result in their own unique artwork. Opportunities will be provided to ask questions, get feedback, or share with the group their work. At the end of class additional examples will be shared of how students can explore the techniques further!
Learning Goals
Students will learn watercolour techniques, including: paint handling, proper brush care, gradient washes, controlling colour density, colour mixing, compositional planning, and a method for painting coniferous trees.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am a lifelong creative. I hold a BFA in Studio Art, and have an active studio practice. I currently work mostly in painting, drawing, and printmaking, but I love all sorts of making and have experience working with photography, fibre, installation art, audio, ceramics, and more!
I am passionate about conservation, the environment, world history, art history, and minority cultures, and these themes and connections come up in my classes as appropriate. Art always has context.
I have experience teaching art classes to children in galleries, schools, and community settings, and am excited to take this experience online to create dynamic learning experiences. I believe art is so many things, self-expression, discovery, skill-building, empowering, and healing. Whenever possible, I try to include in my classes opportunities to learn new skills alongside opportunities for personal expression: structure and creativity. I hope to help my students learn to notice the world around them and inside them and find ways to translate that visually.
Something fun about me: I love to explore! I love to travel, hike forest trails, and discover new places and experiences.
