Mister Seahorse Collage a Mixed Media Art Lesson
We will be reading Eric Carle's Mister Seahorse story and discuss the artwork in the book. They will be drawing their very own seahorse using oil pastels and simple shapes. They will add paint, and tissue paper to create texture and richness of color.

Description
Class Experience
The student will learn 3 basic elements of art (shape, color, texture) The student will learn the 3 primary colors and how to mix colors to create secondary colors. The student will learn the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes. The student will learn to combine small simple shapes to form a larger complex shape. The student will learn the definition of texture and layer tissue paper to create texture and richness of color. The student will learn the difference between transparent, translucent and opaque materials.
No homework assigned for this class. Students may choose to continue with their art project outside of class time.
white paper (construction, heavy drawing, watercolor would all work fine) oil pastels or crayons paint (tempera, acrylic, poster) (black, blue, red, yellow required and any other additional colors) paint palette or paper plate to mix colors starch or watered down glue small paint brush or q-tip swabs for paint small or medium brush for starch or watered down glue tissue paper in different colors (cut in 1 inch squares)
50 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
Students can choose to read Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle before class or bring to class and follow along.
