Writing Effective Sentences
Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to learn and practice writing sentences with strong subjects and verbs, avoid sentence fragments, and use various lengths of sentences in their writing. Students will work through practice activities (handouts) to master skills. By the end of the lesson students will submit one paragraph using the strategies they have learned in the lesson.

Understanding the Essay Prompt and Sources
Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to read and understand the essay prompt provided by the teacher. They will then be guided on how to effectively read, annotate (highlight) and take notes while reading related sources. *These sources will give them quotes and evidence to add to their essay. By the end of the lesson students will submit a note-taking graphic ogranizer for teacher review.

Building a Thesis and Outline
Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to start their essay outline by writing a thesis statement (main idea sentence) for their essay. Students will then add to their essay outline by writing two main ideas for their body-paragraphs. Students will add information from the sources in lesson 2 to their essay outline. They will finish the lesson by outlining their conclusion paragraph. By the end of the lesson students will submit the essay outline for teacher review.

Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to set up a Word Document in MLA Format style.
Lesson 5
Writing Your Introduction Paragraph
Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to write the first draft of their introduction paragraph by learning and applying these 3 key components to their paragraph: 1) An Essay Hook 2) Background Information 3) Thesis Statement By the end of this lesson students can review their work compared to the model provided in this weeks lesson.

Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to internally cite the sources they are using in the essay. They will learn how to cite sources in MLA format.
Lesson 7
Writing Your Body Paragraphs
Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to write the first draft of their 3 body paragraphs. Student will use their essay outline to guide their rough draft and put their ideas into complete sentenences in a logical way. By the end of this lesson students can review their work compared to the model provided in this weeks lesson.

Write your Conclusion Paragraph
Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to write the first draft of their conclusion paragraph by learning and applying these 3 key components to their paragraph: 1) Reworded Thesis Statement 2) The Why (why this topic is important) 3) Call-to-Action statement By the end of the lesson students will submit their rough draft in MLA format that contains the introduction, 3 body, and conclusion paragraphs.

Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to build a MLA format Works Cited Page to fully reference the sources used in their essay.

Editing and Final Draft
Students will be instructed through a video-guided lesson to read and edit their essay rough draft for C.U.P.S. (Capitalization, Usage, Punctuation, Spelling). By the end of the lesson students will submit their final draft in MLA format that contains the introduction, 3 body, and conclusion paragraphs.
Students will improve their understanding and application of writing effective sentences in a basic 5-paragraph essay. 
I have 13+ years of teaching English in 6th-12th grade. 
I have 4+ years of teaching English at the Post-Secondary level. 

I hold my Master's (MA) in Secondary English Education with an emphasis in English. 
I hold my Bachelors (BA) in Secondary English Education with and emphasis in Structured English Immersion. 
Homework Offered
Each week student's homework will be to watch and work through the steps and tasks of each video-guided lesson. Each lesson has a submission task to be reviewed for teacher feedback (optional).
