2 in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will learn how to draw objects, in this case, Angels, by watching me draw portions of the drawing, a little at a time. They will follow along. I would like them to be able to see my paper as it is filmed over my shoulder. The class will be structured with me drawing what can easily fit into 45 minutes. We will draw or color, one class at a time, and take four classes on one project. The first class will be drawing only. The students will follow along with me as I draw the angel, step by step and all the details on her. This might take the whole 45 minutes, but if it doesn't then I will have them begin to add the sharpie over their pencil lines. The second class will be finishing up the sharpie and beginning to add colored pencil if time allows. I will be demonstrating the color technique to guide them through the coloring process. The third class will be continuing to add the colored pencil and enhancing it with shading and the Fourth class will be completing the color shading and gel pen details to the Angels! They will be done in true Folk Art style, with stylized features and bold color choices. If the students finish before the class is over I will give them another very short drawing project which will fill the remaining class time during the 4th class. The nature of a drawing class is that students have different speed levels in which they finish their drawings. I encourage them to be careful and go slowly so as not to make a sloppy drawing, but I encourage them to quicken the pace if it appears they might not finish on time. I periodically, during each lesson, ask them to show their work to me individually, so that I may make suggestions and guidance, assuring the best possible piece of art for their age level.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to draw a line drawing of an angel complete with stylized features and clothing and expression on her face. I will give the students step by step guidance so that they construct a drawing in a pleasing composition. After they follow a line drawing, they will follow my instruction on the proper way to color the drawing. As students continue to take my classes, and progress in ability, I will add more sophisticated media for color and technique. I am very particular with the way students complete their projects. This is what has made me so successful as an art teacher for more than 20 years. They must be neat and complete, but I promise to encourage them to have fun, and to maintain a friendly, open atmosphere where they feel comfortable with me and are unafraid to ask for help.

Supply List
I can provide my expertise. The Students need to purchase the following materials: 1) Drawing paper. A white drawing paper tablet (found online on Amazon, or dickblick.com or Target) will work great. I prefer 80 lb. weight paper, so I think the paper at Target might be lighter weight, but it's certainly fine if that's all you can get right now. 81/2 x11" or 9x12". Strathmore has a 9x12 60-sheet spiral pad in 64lb. weight at Target for $6.49. Also - "Mellisa and Doug" Drawing pad 50 sheets heavy weight on Amazon for $2.99. Just be careful that it's not too stiff like card stock. 2) A Pencil - Bic #2 mechanical 0.7 pencils from Target are my "go-to" pencils. BIC X-TRA LIFE. A 40 count box is about $10 but you can buy single pencils. Don't get 0.9. Not the x-tra smooth x-tra strong or sparkle...they break too easily. I create significant art using these and they're way cheaper than drawing pencils, but easy, since you don't have to sharpen them. If all you have available are Ticonderoga #2, that's fine. But I will not let the students use the pink eraser on the end of that type of pencil. It smears the drawing and leaves a pink streak. 3) An eraser. "White Pearl" is fine..Target 3-pack $1.99 4) an Ultra Fine black Sharpie. 2-ct. $1.89 or 4 ct. $3.89 All these things can be found at Target. 5) The students will also need Colored pencils, and if Prismacolor colored pencils are not in your budget, (don't worry they aren't in most people's budgets), then Crayola is the best bet. They work fine for a class like this. Also at Target - 24 ct. $2.99. 6) an optional supply would be gel pens in white, gold and/or silver. They can be found on Amazon.

Teacher expertise and credentials
All of us have a gift to share with others, and this is what I want to share. I started drawing when I was very young and haven't stopped. I love drawing more than anything. I'm also naturally good at teaching. I've been an art teacher for over 18 years, and I've also taught Drama, Photography, Speech and Dance. I've always been really good at explaining things. Plus, I enjoy the students. If you know your son or daughter likes art, I will help them create beautiful projects worthy of framing on the wall, not just curling up on the refrigerator! :)
