Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
In this ongoing class, we will explore the letter R through spoken language to help strengthen R sound phonemic awareness for reading and speaking. The letter R is often tricky for readers because it can greatly influence the sounds around it - it is called the Bossy R sound for a reason! Each week, we start by talking about R at the beginning of words, R blends, and the R sound that comes after vowels to build each student's confidence. We will then move on to play a game with different R themed vocabulary to build into sentences or short stories. I have created games similar to Clue, Memory, Battleship, Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Life, Jeopardy, and Family Feud for past classes, and I am always trying to think of new games to keep it exciting and interesting. This class is very social and each student will be presented with several opportunities to share each week.
