Beginner Level
In this interactive and hands-on one-time class, students will dive into the basics of zine-making with live demonstrations and step-by-step guidance. From folding and cutting to filling their zine with their own content, students will be encouraged to ask questions and share their ideas. I’ll provide tips and encouragement along the way as they create their zines. With plenty of time to create, students will walk away with their first completed mini zine.
Learning Goals
Creative Expression: Filling their zines with unique content like stories, drawings, or ideas.

Supply List
A PDF handout with a template for a mini-zine will be provided. Students will need the art supplies they would like to use to create. I recommend colored pencils and markers, but old magazines to cut out and glue are a lot of fun too!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
As a children’s author, illustrator, and zine-maker, I’ve led many creative workshops that empower young people to express themselves through storytelling and art. I love seeing students bring their ideas to life in their very own publications and always aim to provide a fun, positive learning experience.
