Students will learn how to create small sketchbooks by hand! They will also learn about how to develop a personal theme for their book and create visual journal pages that follow their theme in multiple materials. Hands on learning! Week 1 - Construct your sketchbook and choose your theme! Begin gathering ideas for how you want to develop your theme throughout the course. Week 2 - Dry media development. Learn how to create different types of works in your sketchbook using dry materials (crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc). Week 3 - Wet media development. Discover how to use paint to develop textures and different effects to support your theme. Week 4 - Collage and completion. Learn several techniques and methods of collage to enhance the theme of your sketchbook. Work towards completing your visual journal! No background knowledge is required. For homework, students will need to spend between 1 and 2 hours per week developing a final artwork, using the instructions/discussion from the week, that will be provided in a video at the beginning of each week. Learner progress will be evaluated through in progress photos of their work and class correspondence with the teacher/classmates about progression during the creation process throughout the week. The teacher will provide individual feedback and guidance as each student works through their weekly projects. Students provide encouragements and constructive feedback/analysis to their classmates throughout the course. This is a flexible schedule class with no live meetings. Students will be provided videos and instruction for each week and skills to practice. All information is posted on the first day of the scheduled week. Through out the week, students and the teacher will post work and participate in a class discussion/analysis about their work development, setbacks, discoveries and final projects. All students are encouraged to participate in the discussion/analysis.

Artist. Teacher. Mother.
Hello! I am an art educator that has a passion for teaching all things art related. My experiences include teaching painting/drawing, photography, graphic design, sewing, sculpture, and art history to all ages (Kindergarten thru College). My goal with each student is to not only teach them how to improve their skill and knowledge, but how to think creatively and reflect themselves in their artwork.
My background includes a Bachelors of Art Education through Towson University and a Masters of Art Education through Boston University.
I am an active artist myself; frequently showing work in exhibits and working on various painting and graphic design commissions. I feel that in order to be a successful and current art educator, it is important to constantly be working as a professional artist in the field and to bring that knowledge and experience into the classroom.
I look forward to teaching your developing artists!
