Class Experience

The goal of this class is "Basic Music Competence" - the ability to sing on pitch to a variety of tonalities, and the ability to keep a steady beat to a variety of different rhythms and tempos. Every activity is geared towards both the musical aptitudes of your child, but also the "full brain" aptitude, building the brain "mesh" needed to succeed in a variety of academic subjects as the child grows through school!

We work on:
1. singing and rhythm
2. coordination
3. following steps
4. counting
5. imagination
6. dancing
7. fine motor skills
8. gross motor skills
9. following directions
10. letters, numbers, colors, and common objects we see every day
There is no formal "homework" but I do send you the links to the songs we do in class, so you can continue the learning at home in between classes! The Parent is the child's primary educator, and they will model what YOU do first, before me. So it is important that you also learn the songs and sing with your children/
1. Something for kids to shake (I use an egg shaker percussion instrument) - you can simply put rice in a small plastic container or bottle that can kids can hold in one hand. Or, use a salt shaker!
2. A drum! If you don't have a kids' drum, you can use a piece of tupperware and a wooden spoon!
3. A scarf to dance with, or a light material from a craft store (about 18" x 18") - something to whirl and twirl with
4. A dynaband or other stretchy band big enough for the child and the parent to pull on either end. In a pinch, you can use a bungee chord, BUT make sure that the "hook" on either end is covered so that you don't hurt yourself!
There is no formal assessment. However, as I interact with the children and notice their special abilities and the areas that need work, I will work with them in a fun way as class moves along.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
