Come learn the basics of flute playing in this ongoing class. Class Content: During this group class, students will learn the basics of flute playing. We will focus on the very beginning of flute playing with parts of a flute, how to put a flute together and take care of your instrument. We will work on the basics of blowing into the flute. Students will learn how to play the flute by larning notes, rhythms, and songs.
I have been an elementary teacher for ten years. I have been playing flute for over twenty years with experience in middle and high school, as well as some college. My main instrument is flute, but I also have experience with piccolo, piano, and saxophone. I participated in concert, jazz, marching, and pep band.
Homework Offered
There will be one page assigned weekly posted in the classroom. This page should only take about 10 minutes to complete and will be more of a game or activity page. Students will also be assigned weekly playing practice. They will need to write down their playing time along with the notes or numbers in the book that they practice. The total time required for daily practice should not exceed more than twenty minutes a day. Daily practice is best to learn the skills needed.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
There is no formal assessment for this course. An informal assessment will be done each class to adjust the class for that week.Grades Offered
Since this is a music class learners will need to have their microphones on while playing for me. However, I am happy to allow learners to have their cameras off after a visual check in and communicate using the chat feature.
Learners should have an understanding of left and right hands for finger and hand placement.

Pencil *bottled water if desired (Please no other drinks or any food. It can cause the pads in a flute to deteriorate and build up inside the flute.)

Parents will need to help monitor their students to make sure they are completing their practice record and weekly worksheet. **Please make sure student's know their right from left hand as hand placement is important in this course.
We will be using essential elements for practice and throughout the course. There is an online option as well once the book is purchased. There is a code that can be put into the website in the back of the book.
