This workshop is designed to teach and reinforce the literary device of onomatopoeia through bookmaking. The workshop integrates literacy with visual art. Literary devices allow writers to be more creative and inventive. Onomatopoeia is the naming of a thing by the actual sound that it makes. Examples of a onomatopoeia include: "Pop," "Swoosh," and "Rustle." The class is structured as follows: 5 minutes to check in and review materials, 10 minutes for slide presentation (define and review...
Students will learn about the literary device of onomatopoeia. The students will choose a "sound" word and determine a scenario that applies to that word. The students will design a pop-up page incorporating onomatopoeia and an accompanying illustration.
Two pieces of white paper Scissors Glue Crayons or markers optional- construction paper
Students are encouraged to participate through discussion and sharing their work.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
