Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
Grab your favorite teddy bear and get comfortable to hear a story about a bear. In this multi day class, the students will listen to a story about a bear.
Some of the books that will be read are:

How Joe The Bear and Sam The Mouse Got Together~focus will be on sequencing the story and retelling the events, discussing the ending and what the author was trying to teach us, and talking about friends in a text to self discussion.

The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear ~focus will be on "reading the pictures" to gain more information, making predictions, identifying characters and the setting of the story as well as identifying the problems in the story.

Bear Snores On~focus will be on the setting of the story, sequencing the characters in the order they were introduced in the story, and making predictions.

The Big Black Bear~focus will be on "reading the pictures" to gain more information, making predictions, describing the characters and setting of the story. Discussing the ending of the story and the "twist" ending.

The Year Of The Mother Bear~focus will be on the setting of the story and how the setting changes, and on vocabulary and the words the author used to create a visual image.

More Bears~focus will be on the setting of the story, sequencing the characters in the order they were introduced in the story, and making predictions.

The students will hear the story read with fluency and expression. Depending on how comfortable the students are, I will encourage them to participate and interact with other learners. Oh, so much fun!
Grab a teddy bear and come listen to some bear stories.

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.

My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕

I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.

However, I always incorporate math, writing, drawing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.

I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.

There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started!

Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop an academic foundation and gain academic confidence with a love of learning. Your child will be a life time reader!

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child and further a passion for learning!
