Class Experience

Join me for a four week, flexible schedule, baking course. From magical candies to scrumptious chocolate bark, we'll cook tasty recipes to impress any unicorn fan. This is Recipe Set 1 of a series of Mini Bakers: Unicorn Treats classes, the sets can be completed in any order.

This is a flexible schedule class, there are no live lessons. Students can complete the lessons in their own time over each week. If learners enrol late, they will still have full access to the classroom and can therefore catch up. Learners will be provided each week with:
* 1 week before - An ingredient and kitchen equipment list
* Monday -  A recipe card
* Monday - Video that breaks the recipe down step by step
* Wednesday - Weekly quiz or activity
* Friday - Recipe evaluation prompts
* Ongoing - The opportunity to message the teacher if they require any extra assistance (please allow 24 hours for a response as the course is flexibly scheduled)

Flexible classes have interaction built in. The learners and the teacher can correspond using the Outschool classroom and will:
* Post photos of their finished creations
* Taste test their food and comment by text or video
* Comment on the photos, posts and videos of others
* Take part in activities
* Ask and answer questions

Week 1 - Unicorn Candy (recipe) and Introduce Yourself (activity)
Week 2 - Unicorn Bark (recipe) and My Ideal Unicorn Habitat (activity)
Week 3 - Unicorn Cupcakes (recipe) and Design a Cupcake (activity)
Week 4 - Unicorn Trail Mix (recipe) and Spot the Difference Challenge (activity)

Class video, recipe and discussion points will be posted each Monday by 12pm UK time (GMT/BST).
(If you enroll late as the only learner, then please allow 24 hours after enrollment for the first activities to be uploaded.)

These recipes are designed to be ideal for my younger bakers. Unlike my longer classes for older bakers, which feature more baking from scratch, there will be more use of prepared mixes and ingredients than I usually include in my cooking classes. For example, we may use packaged frosting (instead of making it from scratch) or decorate shop bought cupcakes (rather than cooking these from scratch during the class).
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to follow a recipe step-by-step.
Learners will be able to make a unicorn treat to share with family or friends.

Parental Guidance
When you enroll in this class, you accept full responsibility for your learner's safety. It is essential that a responsible adult is in the same room as the learner and ready to step in to help if necessary. Some recipes will need baking in the oven. An adult must be responsible for placing the food in the oven, checking on it during cooking and taking it out when necessary. Please ensure your learner has short sleeves, or close fitting long sleeves that will not get caught on equipment, long hair tied back and is wearing an apron or clothes that can be washed easily. Please ensure you check all your ingredients for possible allergens. Recipes can be adapted for vegetarians.
Supply List
Below are the ingredients and equipment needed for week 1:
Ingredients - Egg, confectioners/powdered/icing sugar, pink and yellow food colors (or pick your own colors), flavoring (optional), small candies (mini m&Ms or similar).
Kitchen equipment - Mixing bowl, baking parchment/foil/cling wrap, something sharp to poke eyes with (toothpick, skewer, knitting needle), small bowl/mug, blunt knife (optional).
