Class Experience

Learners will be able to follow a simple recipe.
Learners will be able to mix a dough.
Learners will be able to roll out their dough and use a cookie cutter or template.
Learners will be able to make heart cookies to give to Dad this Father's Day.
I have taught nursery and kindergarten, and also looked after early years children at a number of Summer camps. I was the counsellor in charge of the cooking groups for a couple of years of Summer camp. I enjoy baking in my free time.
Learners may need additional time after class to finish cutting and filling their last cookies, before putting them into the oven.
Learners are encouraged to help to clean up their baking space after class.
Ingredients - Plain or all purpose flour, brown sugar, butter, egg, vanilla essence or ground ginger and hard boiled candies (Jolly Rancher, Fox's Glacier Fruits or similar). Exact quantities given in classroom welcome post.
Kitchen equipment - A large and a small heart shaped cookie cutter (if necessary, the large heart cutter can be replaced by a piece of thick cardboard cut into a large heart cookie shape, and the small heart cookie cutter can be replaced by a plastic bottle top), a blunt knife (if using a cardboard heart template), a baking tray lined with baking parchment or greaseproof paper, a mixing bowl, a teaspoon, a rolling pin and an oven (adult use only).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
It is recommended that a responsible adult is in the same room as the learner (off camera) and ready to step in to help if necessary. The cookies need baking, an adult will need to put the cookies into the oven and take them out again. If you do not have a heart shaped cookie cutter, then your learner can use a cardboard template and a blunt knife to cut the dough into shape. An adult will have to crush or powder the candy before class, and if necessary cut a heart template out of cardboard.

Please ensure you check all your ingredients for possible allergens.
