Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
Beginner Level
This class is a weekly, one-on-one piano lesson for young beginners that may learn better in the shorter 15-minute timeframe instead of the longer 30-60 minute class. The teacher has extensive experience with young beginner students and has a very fun and enthusiastic teaching style that suits well for young learners and will help them enjoy their lessons and look forward to each class.

The typical class will be divided into three segments:
1) Review the song/lesson from the previous week (5 minutes).
2) Introducing one new song/concept (5 minutes)
3) Bonus song or learning activity/game (5 minutes)

Each student will need to have a piano or keyboard, and also be required to purchase their own songbooks (link given by teacher after first lesson).
Learning Goals
Some of the early lessons and topics that will be learned include:
Finger Numbers: assign a number 1-5 to each hand
Position and posture: how to sit properly and how to hold your hands on the piano
Rhythm: learning the notes and their rhythmic value
Music Alphabet: learn the names of each of the white keys on the piano and how they are organized
Dynamics: understand the symbols for loud and soft
The Music Staff: understand the lines and spaces of the staff and which note of the keyboard it matches to
Accidentals: learn about sharps and flats and how to name and identify the black keys on the piano

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Mr. Alan!

Since I first started banging on the piano as a toddler and singing at the top of my lungs, I have always loved music. The first chance I got, I started taking private piano lessons and continued those all the way to college. Anytime there was a chance in school to be involved in something musical, from marching band or jazz band, to theater and chorus, I wanted to be a part of it.
It is my goal as a piano and music teacher to help each student find the same love of all things music that I have always had, and be able to enjoy and use their knowledge of music the rest of their life.

I live in Tennessee with my beautiful wife, my fun and energetic 7 year old daughter, my crazy Halloween-loving 3 year old son, and my sweet and cuddly newborn son who all love to sing and have glowstick dance parties together. :)

I am thankful that you have considered me as a piano teacher for your child, and I can't wait to be their teacher!
