What's included
1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this on-going, social gaming club, students will join together weekly and have the opportunity to meet new friends and work with others, as they explore Minecraft in their own safe, private multiplayer world. It's the perfect social hour for those that homeschool or really anyone who likes video games and making friends! This class will use both easy-mode survival and creative settings in Minecraft. Cheats will be enabled while in survival mode and the teacher will help the students if needed. Most activities will be student-led, as this class is intended as a social hour for students to play Minecraft and interact naturally with each other. This class works best when each student has two devices, one on which to join the Zoom call (such as a laptop or computer) and one on which to play Minecraft (such as a tablet or phone). *Please note: Students must have the BEDROCK EDITION of Minecraft to join this class’s private server. The teacher will provide the IP address and port number of the private server during the student's first class. Additional instructions including how to connect if your student is using a Nintendo Switch, Xbox, or PlayStation will be emailed ahead of class. **NOTE: This is a Minecraft Bedrock PRIVATE SERVER, not a realm or world. Connecting using a device such as a Nintendo Switch or Xbox will require changing the DNS settings on the gaming console. Connecting through a PlayStation will require the use of a third party app.** (Instructions will be provided for those joining with a Nintendo Switch, Xbox or PlayStation. This does not affect students joining the Minecraft server through a phone, tablet, laptop or computer.)
Learning Goals
Students will practice social skills and use creativity and teamwork while playing Minecraft together on a safe, private server.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is Maura Cohen. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and just about twenty years teaching experience, in both traditional classrooms and online teaching environments. I have taught children of all ages, from preschool through high school. I was a certified public school teacher for years in both second and fourth grade before staying home to teach and raise my own three children. In recent years, I discovered online teaching and I have loved the flexibility it provides ever since. I am a very friendly, energetic teacher who loves to have fun while helping my students get excited about working together and discovering new things. I love to teach and I love to travel. I have been to many European countries, and I have lived for several years in both Japan and Italy. When I am not in the classroom or traveling, I love spending time with my daughter and two sons, reading, making crafts, and eating my husband's amazing food. (I am very lucky because he is a professional chef!) I hope to see your child in my classroom soon! We will chat about topics they enjoy, practice social skills and teamwork, and have lots of fun!
