Volcanoes are one of the most favorite geographical features to study. We will share what we know about volcanoes and then learn more with the Magic School Bus. We will discuss the types of volcanoes, the science of studying volcanoes, the parts of the volcano, and have some volcano trivia. The class will be presented in a question and answer open discussion style as I present them with information. During class, students will also be able to build in their own Minecraft game (ie... Windows 10, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Playstation, or tablet/phone version) or I have a Java edition whitelisted server they can build on. Students will have access to the whitelisted Java game server after class if over if they would like to play on there. A whitelisted server is a security feature with Minecraft. This means that if your user ID is not registered with us, you cannot play on the server. Building in the Java game is not required. Minecraft is a great learning tool. It helps to build critical thinking skills as students re-create projects in their game platforms. Creating in a cube world takes a lot of work and a lot of thought. I encourage students to share Minecraft knowledge that they have learned with others as they build also. If a student has a question, I do ask if someone in the class can answer before I step in. Kids love to share all they have learned to do. We will build models of the materials we are talking about and a little fun project on the side if there is time. As screen time allows, I will have my game open also, and I will build along with the students. This class is great for beginner builders or those with a lot of building experience. Great for elementary/early middle school level students or students with special needs. I do adjust building projects to skill levels. I do not want students to feel overwhelmed or have anxiety about building, this does not make the class fun or the facts we are sharing memorable. I have been teaching using Minecraft for six years now. This has been with all age levels from early elementary through high school students. Basic Minecraft knowledge is a plus, but not necessary.
Learning Goals
Students will come away with a basic knowledge of volcanoes and the types of eruptions that can happen.

Supply List
It would be a plus if students had access to the episode of Magic School Bus Blows Its Top either before or after class. Also they are welcome to use any Minecraft game format they have. If you have the Java based game, let me know ahead of time and I can build with them in our whitelisted server.
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved or associated with Mojang.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been teaching using Minecraft for over ten years. I have worked with kids of all ages and abilities. I have four special needs children, so I understand that all children learn differently.
