Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
As a teacher, I've found that by diving into special interests, you can get a level of "buy in" not usually seen in some students. That's why I created this Minecraft themed fraction series, to target those kiddos who love everything Minecraft.

This is a two week course, scheduled over six sessions. We will focus on the beginning stages of fraction learning - identifying, partitioning, and getting comfortable with the concept. Students in this Minecraft themed class will engage in games and exercises that teach the fraction skills and/or reinforce preexisting fractions skills. Single step word problem work is also included.

Homework and assessments can be provided at the request of the parent/caregiver, but are not required portions of the course.
Learning Goals
Students will be able identify, partition, and create fractions.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.1 - Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.3.B - Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions, e.g., 1/2 = 2/4, 4/6 = 2/3. Explain why the fractions are equivalent, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
