In this two-session course, students will build a booby-trapped puzzle room and a jump course to practice their planning skills. Many students get excited about ambitious ideas, but have difficulty when they dive in without a plan. Making a plan ahead of time will help us prevent potential problems as gameplay progresses. While we play, the group will discuss how planning can help us to create the best puzzles and treasure room, and how this skill can also help us outside of video games....
1. Students will learn to recognize good planning and bad planning in Minecraft and in everyday activities. 2. Students will complete a hands on activity to better understand how planning helps complete large and challenging projects in Minecraft. 3. Students will connect the use of planning skills to goal completion.

Open an existing Minecraft map or create a new map using creative mode. Build a maze by first planning the important elements just like we did in class. Can you think of ways to design a better maze this time by planning more details? Take a picture from above and share your creation on Outschool when you’re done!
1 file available upon enrollmentEach student participating will need a Minecraft Java account for PC/Mac to be able to join our online LearningWorks Minecraft server. The "Minecraft for Windows 10 version" on console editions, and pocket editions for mobile devices will not work for this course. To participate in our multi-player set-up, students need to access Minecraft Java Edition from a laptop or desktop computer. The class is not compatible with iPads, tablets, phones, or game consoles. Each student will need a working microphone and pair of headphones.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
