Class Experience

This lesson focuses on students being able to transition from single-digit multiplication (for example: 6 x 28 = ?) to multi-digit multiplication problems (for example: 48 x 71 = ?), and it will be in the format of a Minecraft themed slideshow presentation.

We will get to know each other a bit at the beginning of class, and then there will be demonstrations and discussion to introduce the concept of multi-digit multiplication, focusing on multiplying a two-digit number by another two-digit number. Students will then have the opportunity to practice this skill by going through story problems to build a Minecraft castle. There will be multiplication problems related to the story that we will solve together and that the students will get to try on their own. If students are showing understanding of two-digit problems, we may try our hand at a multiplication problem with three digits! Will Steve be able to build a magnificent castle? With your help (and some math!) he can!

I want students to feel comfortable to interact with each other and myself, to ask questions, and to have fun while we learn how to multiply multi-digit numbers together!

Students should have a decent working knowledge of multiplying a single-digit number by a two-digit number for this class. They should also be familiar with the concept of carrying over with addition.

Note: We do not play Minecraft during this class.

Hi! My name is Rebecca, and I am an elementary school teacher, having taught students from Kindergarten all the way to 5th Grade for the past 7 years. I absolutely love teaching!

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree is Special Education Studies. I am married to my wonderful husband, Andrew, and we just had our first child, Daniel, in July 2019. I am so blessed to be able to stay home with Daniel while teaching wonderful students online!

I want to be able to help children succeed in their academics. I want them to not just tolerate learning, but to grow to love it. I try to make all of my classes interactive and fun to help promote a positive attitude toward whatever subject is being taught (and learned!).

I hope to see you in class!
