Class Experience

Students will...

-review character, plot, and setting.

-practice forming comparisons between two texts. How were two stories similar? How were they different?

-learn the difference between regular stories and graphic novels.

-learn how stories introduce problems or questions to create conflict and keep readers interested.

-practice telling their own stories: creating characters, giving them problems, and describing how they solve those problems.
I am a teacher, playwright, and published YA author, and I've previously worked for a high school where I taught writing and ACT/SAT prep. I've also taught English to younger children overseas, led educational events and programming at various theaters around Chicago, and I continue to teach English and language arts to elementary and middle school students online.
2 hours 15 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The books contain some references to characters fighting monsters, but in a very kid-friendly Minecraft way.
We'll use the following books by Anna Kopp:
A Cactus for Allie
A Quest for Snow
Nether Treasure
Smasher and Waffles
End of the Dragon

Students will not need their own copies of the books; I will share them on my screen.
