Everyone feels worried sometimes! In this one-time class, students will learn strategies that they can use when feeling worried. We will begin class by reading and discussing the book, Freddie and Friends, by Kimberly Delude. This book is about a boy named Freddie who has a "worry bug" that follows him around. He joins the "worry bug club" and learns how to handle his worries, by naming how he feels, taking deep breaths, and thinking of a positive thought. After reading the book, we will review they ways that Freddie handled his worry bug. We will then brainstorm together, ways in which we can tame our own worry bugs. This class will offer many opportunities for discussion and reflection. At the end of class, students will make a reflection bracelet, where the each color bead represents a worry they have, followed by a positive thought such as something they are grateful for or an affirmation.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to name their worries, followed by listing positive thoughts and affirmations.
