Mindfulness Stress Management to Help Calm and Refocus FLEX Class for Ages 8-10
In this 6-week FLEX class, students will have fun while learning various mindfulness techniques that are effective at managing stress so they can calm themselves and refocus their attention.

This is a flexible schedule class, so there are no live meetings! During this 6-week FLEX class, students will have fun while learning various mindfulness techniques that are effective at managing stress so they can calm themselves and refocus their attention. Each week there will be 2 videos shared with information and guidance on the activity for the week. Any pertinent handouts will also be provided each time. This class is taught in English.
Students will learn basic information about mindfulness and emotions, have the opportunity to practice many different mindfulness strategies while having fun, and will have an effective way of managing their stress and emotions when they are upset.
As a school social worker, I have been working with students in preschool through 8th grade for 14 years on topics such as coping skills, identifying emotions, and practicing mindfulness.
There is no homework assigned, but students are encouraged to practice the mindfulness techniques between classes.
Supplies for Week 5 to make the stress ball and glitter jar: Stress ball-12" balloon (preferably just colored without a design on it), flour, funnel, sharpie marker, yarn, scissors Glitter jar-A sturdy empty 16 ounce plastic bottle with a lid (for example, an empty water bottle) 1/2 cup of clear glue 1-2 teaspoons of glitter (color of your choice) Measuring cups (1/2 cup and 1 teaspoon) Distilled water preferred, but can use tap water (distilled water will keep the glitter jar mold-free) Food coloring of your choice (optional)
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students may require minimal supervision/assistance when making the craft items (glitter jar and stress ball).
