I have a special interest in mindfulness and sharing it with others. I am sensitive to mental health and wellness issues with a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma from the University of Manitoba including counseling and Universal Design courses. I have practiced mindfulness personally for over 20 years and with my kids for the past two years and am currently working though a Mindfulness Based Fitness Training (MMFT) course with Elizabeth Stanley. I am also influenced and inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh, Sharon Salzberg, and Jon Kabat-Zinn, among others. I work mindfulness and meditation into my daily life and have also participated in several meditation retreats ranging from one day to 10 days! I also have completed my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training through YourYogaFlow.

About the Go to the Now! Curriculum: We use the The Go to the Now! curriculum in this class. It is part of the GoZen!* resources, kid-friendly socio-emotional learning materials that are research-based and rooted in science. Go to the Now! teaches basic mindfulness skills through a series of short animated vignettes. These add add a bit of humor to the topic of mindfulness as the same time as they provide some great teaching points and conversation starters. You can find out more by going to the GoZen! website. With my professional license, I can stream the videos in class and share additional handouts and worksheets with students in my classes. Families do not need their own subscription. *Note that although the name of this program is 'Zen', it is not a Zen buddhist program. Here, 'Zen' simply means 'relaxed'. This program is secular and not tied to any specific religion. About the Educational Nature of this Course: This class offers offers information, tools, and strategies for handling day-to-day stress or anxiety, cultivate resilience and develop positive attitudes. As a group class with an educational (rather than therapeutic) focus, I cannot offer individual counselling. If your learner suffers from chronic anxiety or anxiety disorder or another diagnosed condition, this class may be a good complementary resource along with medical advice and/or consultation with a therapist. Having said that, I like to have open lines of communication with parents, so please let me know how your child is experiencing this class and how this class can best support them.
