Using the book Mindful Games: Sharing Mindfulness and Meditation with Children, Teens and Families by Susan Kaiser Greenland learners will build skills in compassion and patience. In our first session, we will play a few Mindfulness games including learning how to follow the breath (mindful breathing) and try a mindful eating exercise together. In our second session, we will follow up on some experiments tried throughout the week between classes and share drawings from the assignment.
Learners will become connected with their breath and bodies, beginning mindfulness with themselves and their surroundings.
Jenine is a lay ordained Soto Zen practitioner and Registered Yoga Teacher. Learners are encouraged to share what they've learned with their families and to include them in the experiments between Outschool class meetings.
Learners will be encouraged to try another mindful eating moment and mindful breathing moment. Drawing and/or writing about their experience(s) is highly encouraged.
For the first session, students will need: paper, pen/pencil, one (1) blueberry or strawberry or grape. For the second session, students will need: paper, pen/pencil, anything they have drawn or written between classes for assignment.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Let's spend some quality time together!
