This ongoing class is meant to provide students with mindfulness strategies that they can use boost their mood, improve academic performance, and increase attention and awareness. All techniques are backed by research and presented in a relaxed, laid-back class. This class will be taught with Canva presentation slides, images, video clips, and discussion. After learning about each mindfulness technique, we will do it together and talk about when it could be useful in our daily lives. Week of 4/4-4/10: Breathing Exercises Simple breathing activities that can be used to increase feelings of calm. Good to use when stressed, anxious, distracted, angry, etc. Week of 4/11-4/17: Journaling Learn about the benefits of journaling. Students can use to express their feelings and express gratitude. Some helpful journaling prompts will be shared during class. If time allows, we will take time to individual write journal responses. Student journal responses do not need to be shared with the class or the teacher. Week of 4/18-4/24: Positive Self-Talk We will discuss positive self-talk and the power of positive affirmations, such as "All of my problems have solutions" and "I am amazing." Week of 4/25-5/1: Meditation We will talk about why and how to meditate. During class, we will do a kid-friendly guided meditation that is freely available on YouTube. Week of 4/2-5/8 Learn how to practice self-care in a mindful way. We will discuss and brainstorm self-care activities during class, such as nature walks, reading, hobbies, meditation, deep breathing, etc. **Mindfulness for Middle Schoolers will take a break from May 9th until late July or early August. The schedule will be posted ASAP.** This class is not meant to diagnose, treat, or cure any mental health conditions. If your child is experiencing difficulties with mental health, please contact a healthcare provider. This class is not meant to replace therapy. Please contact a licensed mental health care provider if you believe your child may need to talk therapy.

Every day, we spend 30 minutes talking about mindfulness and social emotional learning with our students. I would like to help other middle schoolers learn about mindfulness in this ongoing club.
