30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time class, students will learn what mindfulness is and how and why is it good to be mindful. We will discuss how being mindful is good for us and can help us feel calmer and happier. Students will then explore ways in which we can be mindful, such as noticing the sounds we can hear, concentrating on the taste and feel of the food we eat or immersing ourselves in certain activities. Children will then practise a mindful activity. They are then going to look closely and carefully at an image and imagine being in that place. They will need to focus on things they would see, hear and smell if they were really there and think about how they would feel being in that place. They can imagine all the sights, sounds and smells and it will help them to relax and focus. At the end, children will discuss what they enjoyed learning today and what mindful activities they choose to practise at home.
Learning Goals
Children will learn how feelings can affect people’s bodies and how they behave. They will learn what mindfulness is and what different things they can do to manage big feelings, to help calm themselves down and/or change their mood when they don’t feel good.
